Have any Zoner's considered volunteering if so,why, and what did you get out of it..if not what put you off and are you likely to reconsider.
yes i volunteered for the RSPCA and helped with fundraising - shaking a tin outside sainsburys ... etc, i also took on the task to foster rabbits for them athough didn't actually foster any which is a good thing because that means none were there to be fostered. Now that nathan is in nursery two mornings a week i am also looking into fundraising opportunities for the NSPCC.
I've stood outside a supermarket shaking a tin for the Kurds before the invasion of Kuwait.it was worth it for a while..Didn't you find the work frustrating when your trying to raise money and people keep walking past,I found it very annoying, especially as the plight of the Kurds was an important news item...
yeh it's frustrating. i had my dog with me though (she was moonlighting, *grins*), so a lot of people stopped to talk to the dog and then gave money, grin.
Hello I like volunteering it makes me feel good and useful. I’ve volunteered in nursing homes and school for learning disabled adults. I felt so useful that day. I would volunteer again if I was given a chance to go volunteer again.
I volunteer at a agency that works with the mentally retarded. It can be overwhelming but it's enjoyable. I host or help cohost interest group talks or activities for the consumers. I'd say my favorite IG was having the consumers pick out a cd, and tell me why they like that cd so much and then to pick a song from that cd and we'd listen to that song. I'd say the favorite activity would be music therapy every other week. Simply because I enjoy playing musical insturments. LOL one day at work I brought the house pet (the dog) to work for a IG and the consumers loved it. I gave some commands with the dog, then let the consumers pet the dog. And one person out of the group at the end would give the dog a treat.
I've done a lot of work for numerous charities. cancer counsil, kids off the street, youth suicide prevention, epolepsy foundation, canteen, star light foundation, list goes on. I've collected money, spent days in the play room at the hospital playing with and singing to the sick kids, and am now looking into the idea of volunteering in a diveloping country. it's great fun giving to your community, and when it's all for a good cause it gives you a great feeling of achievement when you know that what you've done has made a difference. even if it is just in a small way.
Ah ha well next time I'll take Dougie along, he'll charm the money out of their wallets...smile... did any of you have any difficulty coping with the the issues connected with the volunteering, did you find they were affecting your life more than you had anticipated...
